The exact steps involved in removing a card will vary depending on the type of system in which the card is installed. However, the process is not difficult and you should be able to successfully remove a card without receiving any error messages by using the following process:

  1. Edit any of the following files that contain Ethernet card configuration entries:

    /etc/re.config.d/netconf
    /etc/rc.config.d/hp<drivername>conf

Replace <drivername> with the filename for the driver you use. For example: /etc/rc.config.d/hpigelanconf

Remove or remark out the configuration entries that refer to the card being removed. If there are multiple Ethernet cards in your system, be sure you edit the entry for the correct card.

See the sections on installing and configuring the card if you need more detailed information.

  2. Power down the system. Note: Just removing power to the card’s section is not sufficient.

  3. Remove the card from the system.

  4. Restart the system.
