For more detailed operational and system information, refer to the hp Carrier Grade Blade Server bh3710 Service Manual.

Site Preparation

Prepare the site for installation as described in the hp Carrier Grade Blade Server bh3710 Site Preparation Guide .

Unpacking the Blade Server

The following information is provided for blade server unpacking:

  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Precautions. When handling any electronic component or assembly (such as the chassis, backplane, blades, and peripheral components) observe all antistatic precautions. An ESD kit (HP PN A3025-80004 is available or supplied with this system. The kit contains one wrist strap, one conductive sheet, and one antistatic foam pad.

  • Always wear a grounded wrist strap when working on the equipment or printed circuit boards.

  • Treat all assemblies, components, and interface assemblies as static sensitive.

  • Avoid working in carpeted areas and keep body movement to a minimum while removing or installing components to minimize buildup of static charge.

WARNING! The blade server weighs approximately 29 kg (65 lbs) when fully loaded. At least two people are required to lift the blade server into the cabinet and a third to secure it.
It is recommended that a mechanical assistance device be used to lift the blade server into position. Failure to heed this warning may result in serious injury and destruction of the blade server.
  1. Unpack the blade server from its shipping container.

  2. Compare the contents with the packing list to ensure that all required components have been received, as listed in Table 2-1 “Blade Server Components”.

  3. Use two or more people, or a mechanical device, to move the blade server to the installation site.

  4. Prepare the rack for mounting the blade server chassis.
